What you see is very much what you get- a USB dongle that connects to your PC, and then over to whatever it is you want to connect it to. I used both the RCA and S-Video connections, and they all worked fine. You need the included software that comes with it to use it though, as the computers I have had no idea what to do with the device when it was plugged in prior to the software installation. The software is clearly pretty old judging from it's "Windows XP" aesthetics, but it ran fine on both my desktop and laptop, both of which are running Windows 10, and takes up a pittance of ram- I expect even a cheap netbook could run this without any problem. Plugging in the device to an existing VCR (or pretty much any device with RCA out, it makes no distinction) and it instantly takes up the feed, so you can hot swap between devices if you need to. The quality of the captured media is very much "what you see is what you get". As far as I can tell, the preview window can't be resized, so using it to view your old movies isn't optimal, but the output files can be resized in other players. Once you've played the video through it once to record it (akin to a VCR, ironically), most video players (including Windows Media Player and VLC for sure) can read the uncompressed MPG file it outputs- and the video quality looks exactly like the VHS tapes I ran through it. I had feared that there might be some compression, static, or other noise introduced by the device itself, but that was not at all the case. Likewise for sound, whatever the VCR (or other device) puts out is what the device will grab in true stereo. Though it varied a bit, 10 minutes of video equaled about 500MB of space in the original format- so keep this in mind if you plan to keep all the original MPG files, or plan to render them into a more space-conscious format with pretty much any video editor. All in all, it does what it says it'll do, and does a good job at it. If I had to find a fault with it, the USB device itself is made of a somewhat brittle plastic I doubt would hold up long term if it was being used day in and day out, but if you're planning on that I expect you'd want something both more feature rich, and with longer cables. For me though, it was a stellar value, and if you've got a bunch of old VHS tapes you want to turn into files on your PC that you can upload, share, and store more easily, this is the ticket to get it done quickly and with professional results.

This was already supposed to be on my laptop but for some reason, it in gone, drug out the installation disk and it absolutely refuses to accept the CORRECT SERIAL NUMBER just keep showing a red x YES I TYPED IT IN EXACTLY SEVERAL TIMES USING A DESK LAMP TO SEE VERY CLEARLY THE SERIAL NUMBER ON THE BACK OF THE DISK SLEEVE, there is no damage or anything to the serial number it looks brand new.

There is more than one way to skin a cat, went to device manager and tried to install the drivers directly but that was a no go, so I looked at the driver folder on the DVD disk and the driver folder did not have the driver but had a zip file, copied that do my downloads folder unzipped it then told the device manager where the file was and presto chango driver is installed, just not the stupid software that cannot recognize its own PROPER CORRECT SERIAL NUMBER>
